When it comes to American motoring institutions, it’s hard to argue with Ford’s heritage and legacy. And whilst you might think of a Focus or Fiesta when you hear the name ‘Ford’, a Mustang is the epitome of the brand’s enduring appeal and quality.
And with an all-new version of the car announced at the 2022 Detroit Motor Show, we think it’s time to detail just what to expect from the brand-new Ford Mustang V8.
The Ford Mustang V8 – what to expect
Available in both coupe and convertible models, the all-new Ford Mustang V8 spins the car’s classic design with contemporary twists, offering a reimagined interior and powerful engine.
A 5-litre petrol powered engine provides maximum muscle car performance – and whilst the power and torque figures are yet to be announced, with a base 5-litre engine, you can expect this car to produce more than 450BHP and 500Nm of torque with relative ease. In fact, the car is tipped to reach 62mph in 4.0 seconds, topping out at 170mph.
The Ford Mustang V8 will be available with both a six-speed manual and ten-speed automatic gearbox, both of which send drive to the rear wheels. Customisable drive modes – including Normal, Sport, and Track – allow you to be flexible at the wheel. Other features, including quadruple exhausts, the Mustang’s classic grille and tri-bar rear lights, LED headlights and a broad three-section bonnet, combine the classic Mustang look with modern aesthetics, pleasing audiences who favour design that blends the most up-to-date features with splashes of retro. It’s gritty – but still handsome.
The Mustang’s typical ‘double brow’ dashboard, meanwhile, has been done away with in order to bring the car into 2023 and beyond, meeting customer demand for tech-forward details.
Sporty leather seats offer a comfortable yet swish driving experience, and the vehicle’s interior is similarly driver-focused, with a more open plan look and a central infotainment touchscreen of 13.2 inches, offering both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Manual buttons like climate control and radio have been integrated into the 12.4inch digital instrument panel too, a characteristic that Ford said appealed to drivers across demographics.
As for the price, UK drivers will have to wait and see. Otherwise, the Ford Mustang V8 is expected to be available in the UK from late 2023 in a full suite of twelve colours, including three new options of Blue Ember, Vapor Blue and Yellow Splash. At the time of writing, there’s been no confirmation as to whether the Ford Mustang will return for another generation – so if you’re looking to snag the most up-to-date model for yourself, the V8 may be your last chance to do so.
