The Dacia Duster first launched in 2010, when it was priced – almost unbelievably – at less than £10,000. Since then, it’s had a couple of facelifts. The most recent took place just last year, when Dacia repositioned themselves as a family-focussed brand. But what do we make of the Dacia Duster?

Dacia Duster – why buy one?

If you’re after respectable form and function in an affordable package, the Duster delivers. It’s not the most beautiful car, but there’s something appealing about its brutalist, muscular aesthetic. Combine that with features including alloy wheels, a multi-view camera, plush seats with lateral support, improved headlights, updated infotainment systems, thicker glass windows for noise-cancelling and a chrome front grille, and you have a vehicle that delivers.

The Dacia Duster comes with a range of different engine options. These include a 113bhp 1.5litre diesel option (best for off-road), which is upgradable to 4×4 drive for a few extra grand. Petrol options are 2WD only, coming in either an 89bhp 1.0litre or 1.3litre model, with the latter hitting either 128 or 148bhp. Bi-fuel options are also available.

The Dacia Duster’s main appeal is its great value for money. Admittedly, the interiors are plastic-heavy, and the safety features can’t compare with rival (but more expensive) models. But these seem reasonable sacrifices for the car’s price, particularly when considered against everything else that it delivers. You still get the benefit of features like hill start assist and descent control, emergency brake assist, and cruise control.

So, should I buy a Dacia Duster?

If you’re looking for a car that’s comfortable, spacious, good-looking, and still delivers on drive performance, all for an affordable total, the Dacia Duster is hard to argue with.
